Where would Science Fiction be without the baddies?  Have you wondered what it would be like to be chased down dark corridors by acid  drooling Alien?  Perhaps you always wanted to take on a Dalek?  These creatures and more are all part of the genre we love, and each comes with  it’s own set of strengths and weaknesses. You could order a trooper to put “Five  rounds rapid” into the beast but bullets may not kill it…just make it angry. Then  what do you do?  Have you ever thought about living the Zombie Apocalypse?  Trying to survive  with limited food and bullets through the hoard of zombies who lurk behind every  tree, with other players looking at your last can of Spam thinking how they can  take it from you. A group called NPCs - Non Playing Characters, plays a game’s monsters. As  informed participants they work on the game runner's behalf to keep the story  flowing and in roughly the right direction.  They usually include the game's villain/s  who are required to act in a specific way to make life as challenging as possible  for the players.  And no matter how much you try to tell yourself that the snarling monster leaping  at you is your mate in a costume, your brain and feet says otherwise. You will be  surprised at how realistic it feels. All members take turns at NPCing as it allows  for insight into the other side of game running  - and, to be brutally honest, everyone loves  making players scream and run. For added  incentive the larger games are usually  cheaper for NPC’s than for regular players.     www.firefight.org.uk (c) UKLTA 2011 / Made with Xara
